The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year Is Here....

...and as a result, I'm not sure when I'll be doing the bloggin' thing. I've got a couple of things swirling around in the noggin', but little time to focus, what with all the merriment abounding over the next few days. And to make it all a bit more challenging, our second oldest has been hospitalized over what seems to be food poisoning. After a few days of sick-to-the-stomach-ness and it's attendant unpleasantries, she had finally dehydrated to the point of kidney failure and now is being treated to constant IVs and daily transfusions in order to get her back to square one. We've been seeing those platelettes go from around 4 to double digits and will continue until she's in the triple digits once again. So the holidays will be enjoyed bedside in a city hospital with dinners to take place next week or the week after, recovery allowing.

But we still are filled with the Spirit of Christmas and it is at this point that I wish to say to all who visit here, no matter who you are:

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!!

Marshall,

My prayers are with you! Went through the same thing a few years back with my Niece; luckily, we made it through, but it was touch and go for a while!

I will be thinking & praying for you and yours!!!

Best wishes to your daughter and prayers for a speedy recovery. My own daughter suffered liver failure a few years ago due to her abuse of cocaine, and teetered on the brink of death for a weel, but she survived and now is a fine upstanding citizen with two children of her own.

Merry Christmas, Art!

Thank you all for your concern. I hope you all had a great Christmas. The kid is out of the hospital and back home with her fiance taking care of her, with numerous visits by her mother and sister and other well wishers and motherly types. Her platelet numbers are over 175 where it had gone down to like 4, so we're all really pleased to know that. But she still has to take it slowly, she has regular visits for transfusions, which they'll begin to space out as her numbers continue to improve. The kidneys are working, but are not yet fully recovered, and the steroids they give her make her retain water...she's puffy. But on the mend and each day better than the one before. She had around ten separate specialists dealing with her at one time or another. Amazing how it hit so quick and so hard and how quickly her medical people nailed the proper treatments so quickly. Apparently, this hospital, Advocate Masonic Hospital in Chicago, sees these kinds of blood disorders, which is how they were describing it after a time, fairly regularly, where most other area hospitals maybe once or twice a year. So she was at the right place, surrounded by the right people. Between prayer and a great medical staff, you can't go wrong. Couple or three weeks and she'll be as right as rain. Thanks again all of you.
